After a series of twists and turns, Sophia discovers that the true mastermind behind the massacre of the Sherman family was Charles Sherman , who had incited her to take revenge on Jonathan Yates . Teaming up with Jonathan, they plot to eliminate Charles. In an effort to thwart Charles's plans, Jonathan knocks Sophia unconscious and goes alone to stop the war, ultimately sacrificing himself in the process. Awakening to find herself alone, Sophia also throws herself into the war, fighting bravely for her country.
